“Everyone Needs Someone Who Will Listen to Them”
Tempera on canvas
2024
This painting is about emotional intimacy in a world overwhelmed by noise.
I was thinking about how rarely people truly listen to one another. Most conversations today move too quickly, filled with performance, distraction, advice, or the need to respond instead of simply being present. Yet sometimes the most transformative thing another person can give us is attention without interruption.
The figures in this work exist very close to each other, but emotionally they remain suspended in a fragile psychological space. Their connection is tender, yet uncertain. I wanted the painting to feel almost quiet despite its colors, as if the emotional tension lives underneath the surface rather than inside dramatic gestures.
For me, listening is one of the deepest forms of love.
Not fixing. Not saving. Not controlling. Simply allowing another person to exist fully in your presence.
The soft forms and playful visual language contrast with the emotional vulnerability inside the work. Beneath the bright colors there is loneliness, emotional fatigue, and the universal desire to feel understood without needing to explain everything perfectly.
This painting explores human connection not as idealized romance, but as emotional safety. As the rare moment when somebody truly hears the part of us that usually stays silent.
“The meeting of two personalities is like the contact of two chemical substances: if there is any reaction, both are transformed.”
— Carl Jung
